Making dreams come true

My theory is that is it easier that most of us think to make other people’s wishes come true. Not the big “make me a ballerina/NASCAR driver/spider” wishes, but the smaller everyday ones. If you keep an eye out for it people tell you their wishes all the time, and often it doesn’t take that much effort to make them come true. And let me tell you, it makes you feel like a magical wish-granting pony.

My New Years resolution this year was to make wishes come true. Cheesy right? Fuck you, buddy. It’s awesome. It’s made me some awesome friends, given me great experiences, and when you ask yourself to choose between “I don’t feel like it” and “this will make someone’s dream come true”, there’s really no question. It has also made me more appreciative of the people I know who make my wishes come true, without even thinking twice about it — people who help me make zombie movies, who back me up while I sing songs and play the drums, and who tell other people about my work.

When I was a kid, I would go to the state fair every year and dream of being one of the trashy girls who hung out there. The tough girls with feather roach clips and acid washed jeans, who smoked and probably had make-up and baby soft all over the inside of their purses. This weekend Anya Garrett and I went out to Coney Island to take some pictures and she made my dream come true:

Try it. Be a magical pony!

You get cooler by the day. Teach me your secret!

  2. C. Scott says:

Note to self: Buy goggles, flight suit and jetpack.

I was always afraid of those girls smoking cigarettes at the fair when I was a young boy. Seeing that visage of you brought back some frightening, repressed memories.

    Thanks (?)

I told another guy about your blog, can I be a stallion instead of a pony?

  5. JP says:

I’m such a geek. You know what my dream would be? Hearing you say something slutty in the Kitty Pryde voice.

  6. JackJL says:

I link people to your videos fairly often… This is because the only way you could be any cooler would be for you to become Tom Jones, circa the late 1960’s.

  7. Michael says:

I was gonna throw out a double entendre about how you riding me as a magical pony, but Cormac made an allusion to being a stallion, and while we can argue which is better (a stallion will buck you till tamed, a magical pony will be a vicious f*cker always, yet maybe grant you a wish occasionally), its probably far more refreshing for you if random dudes (in this case, me) weren’t all ’bout some sex all the time.

So, with that, I’m gonna quickly mention that I have a list of things I’ve overhead friends of mine talking about that I will do for them when I can afford to. (and no, expensive sex was not on anyone’s list).

I try to grant little wishes. Only problem is people start expecting it, but it’s fun for awhile.

Hey JackJL, first show I ever went to was Tom Jones at the Copa. This was early 70’s and I was about 8. Grandma took me. She still has his brow sweat on a Copa Red cloth napkin. They carried him so women wouldn’t rip his clothes off. Then and there I decided I was going to be a performer.

    Tom Jones changed my life.

but yeah Eliza is pretty cool too.

I always wanted to make out with those trashy state fair girls. And I live in Oklahoma, so maybe you know the level of trashy I’m talking about here. Super-Trashy. But hot. You know?

I’m the one Cormac told about your blog. You should seriously consider the whole ‘stallion’ thing. Partially because he’d make a great stallion, but also because he is feral.

  11. MrEntropy says:

I’m always granting little wishes but, as Charlie said, people come to expect it. When you stop delivering these little wishes then people think you’re a big a-hole.

But, you know, I keep doing it. I’m more of a magical jackass than a pony.
