YAT week 9

My Year of Awesome Things project, in which I endeavor to do something awesome every week.

Free Pornographers! On the Fourth of July I got to see the New Pornographers in Battery Park. For FREE! Glennis had scooped up a couple of tickets to the free show and we went with Liz Black & one of her many Jeffs. It was fun, but we left a little early to go get sushi when it started to rain. We are Americans.

PR day - I can’t keep listing Planet Rose as an Awesome Thing, but this week’s was particularly great. Lots of friends — old and new — lots of delightfully terrible karaoke, and lots of holiday themed drinks. My friend, Robyn — a corporate junior exec — got so hammered she triumphantly walked out wearing my jewelry after making me sing “Almost Paradise” with her. The next day I woke up drunk with a tattoo of a tiger on my shoulder (it has since washed off.)

Philly Cheesesnakes - I Eat Pandas spent the weekend in Philadelphia, doing shows and workshops. Honestly, it was exhausting — six hours of workshops and a show in one day. But, it was still really fun and we got to work with great people and perform in front of awesome, smart crowds. AND I ate my first Philly Cheesesteak, which was awesome. (There were no “Cheesesnakes” but I liked the sound of it. I’m an artist.)

Don’t forget that you sang the rest of the night away wearing my handcuff necklace!

Next week…Glory of Love…it’s gonna be awesome.

You guys should do things in Philly more often, on weekends that I’m not away on my honeymoon. As a musical-theatre-piano-player-guy-who-likes-comedy-things-and-goes-to-NYC-fairly-often, seeing I Eat Pandas has been on my to-do list for like the past two years. Dang.

Philly is a weird place but it has a lot of great theaters and some good comedy potential. And it’s only a $20 Chinatown bus away. Woo!
