It’s the easiest one to pick, but my favorite teacher was my Kindergarten Teacher, Miss Houston. When we had career day, I was the only kid who came to school dressed in my regular clothes. Everyone else was dressed as little artists, and teachers (all girl school.) She asked me why I wasn’t dressed up. It was partly because I forgot, but mostly because I couldn’t think of what to wear for what I wanted to be. She asked what I wanted to be. A comedian like fozzie bear, or a rock star. She asked me to pick one, I picked rock star. During recess, she stayed inside with me making a rock star costume out of paper, glue and purple glitter. With a microphone and everything. When it was finished, she helped me up onto the table and I got to show everyone in the class my cool paper skirt and shirt, as I sang into my paper microphone. She was awesome.
She was supposed to get married near the end of the year, and we all had to learn her new name. Then one day one of the other teachers had to tell the class that Miss Houston was not getting married. How crazy must that have been — explaining your screwed up personal life to 30 6-year-olds. We took a feild trip to her apartment after that and had snack on her unused wedding napkins — they all had her name and some guy’s written on them. I hope she enjoyed that. I also hope I get successful enough to win something on TV some day so I can thank her.

Miss Houston, I’m still wearing purple glitter.

She made a 6 year old into a real rockstar! where is that cool lady now?
why don’t you just thank her now.
As a former second grade teacher, many years ago, PS 396, I’d love to hear a thank you from one of my little tykes. So, find Ms. Houston and thank her! She’d love to know you think about her.
